Deuterium toward the White Dwarf Wd0621−376: Results from the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (fuse) Mission

چکیده
Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer observations are presented for WD0621−376, a DA white dwarf star in the local interstellar medium (LISM) at a distance of about 78 pc. The data have a signal-tonoise ratio of ∼20–40 per 20 km s resolution element and cover the wavelength range 905–1187 Å. LISM absorption is detected in the lines of D I, C II, C II*, C III, N I, N II, N III, O I, Ar I, and Fe II. This sight line is partially ionized, with an ionized nitrogen fraction of > 0.23. We determine the ratio D/O = (3.9 ± 1.3 1.0) × 10 −2 (2σ). Assuming a standard interstellar oxygen abundance, we derive D/H ≈ 1.3× 10. Using the value of N(H I) derived from EUVE data gives a similar D/H ratio. The D I/N I ratio is (3.3± 1.0 0.8)× 10 −1 (2σ). Deuterium toward Wd 1634-573: Results from the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (fuse) Mission
We use Far Ultraviolet Spectrocopic Explorer (FUSE) observations to study interstel-lar absorption along the line of sight to the white dwarf WD 1634-573 (d = 37.1±2.6 pc).
متن کاملDeuterium Abundance toward Wd2211−495 : Results from the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (fuse) Mission
We present a deuterium abundance analysis of the line of sight toward the white dwarf WD2211−495 observed with the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE). Numerous interstellar lines are detected on the continuum of the stellar spectrum. A thorough analysis was performed through the simultaneous fit of interstellar absorption lines detected in the four FUSE channels of multiple observati...

Primordial evaluations of the deuterium abundance should provide one of the best tests of Big Bang nucleosynthesis models. Space as well as ground based observations seem however to result in different values. This asks for more observations in different astrophysical sites in order to link present day interstellar medium D/H evaluations to primordial ones. New investigations, made with FUSE (t...

Excellent HST/GHRS spectra of interstellar hydrogen and deuterium Lyman-absorption toward nearby stars allow us to identify systematic errors that have plagued earlier work and to measure accurate values of the D/H ratio in local interstellar gas. Analysis of 12 sightlines through the Local Interstellar Cloud leads to a mean value of D/H = (1:50 0:10) 10 ?5 with all data points lying within 1 o...
متن کاملFuse Determination of a Low Deuterium Abundance along an Extended Sight Line in the Galactic Disk
We present a study of the deuterium abundance along the extended sight line toward HD90087 with the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE). HD 90087 is a O9.5III star located in the Galactic disk at a distance of ∼ 2.7 kpc away from the Sun. Both in terms of distance and column densities, HD 90087 has the longest and densest sight line observed in the Galactic disk for which a deuterium ...
